I love summer and love having my kids home for the summer break. I get sad every year when summer is coming to an end and I can’t believe that in just a month it will be time to send my two oldest kids back to school.

I love the look of these grooved boards. It looks like several different blocks stacked together, but it is just one single board with grooved cut in it.
I painted mine black and then sanded all the edges to make the grooves stand out.
This would be cute with scrapbook paper modpodged on it too.

My nephew (who is going to high school this fall) saw this the other night,
and said “Man, I wish that was true!”
The kit includes red vinyl for the apple, brown vinyl for the stem, and green vinyl for the leaf, but I wanted to give mine a little bit more detail, so I place my vinyl on the back of some scrapbook paper in those same colors and cut each shape out and then modpodged it onto the board. You could easily skip this step to save some time, but for the few extra minutes it took to do, I thought it was worth my time to do.

In the past I had just painted the board for the vinyl art one solid color, but I thought it would be fun to dress it up a bit with scrapbook paper instead of paint. And then I picked one line of the vinyl to “highlight” by putting a different piece of scrapbook paper behind it. I love how these ones turned out…now I just might have to redo my older ones…when I can find the time 🙂

It is time for another subway art board too. I love the hand painted finish of these boards. I always have such a hard time picking what paint colors to use…but if that is my biggest problem then I feel like I am doing okay!

This picture is a close up to show the hand painted look you end up with.
For this craft, you use the vinyl as a stencil and use different colors of paint to create your subway art. Then you remove the vinyl stencil leaving behind a hand painted finish.
